[Bruce had been in a hurry. Being chased by the United States military would do that to you, you see. The sudden change of scenery, however, had been enough to prompt an abrupt stop. I mean, one second you're charging through some lady's underwear and the next you're standing in the middle of a cell? That's a little disconcerting. Bruce is almost absolutely positive he hadn't changed. He wasn't missing any time. Nothing had happened to provoke it.
So....what happened?
He dropped his pack on the bed and set about giving the room a good once over. The sounds of the pursuing soldiers had died, so he figured he had the time. The journal is the last thing he picks up and he thumbs through it, getting a feel for how it works. Reading entries, listening to them. The mechanics of the book are astounding. After a moment or two more, he decides to give it a try himself. The audio cuts in and out briefly as he experiments and then finally:]
Hello?

Hello?

Well it depends on what you like to do, really... I enjoy cooking and sewing, so there's always something to do in the clothiers tower or the kitchens. I also enjoy giving people the guided tours, for lack of better description. There's fishing down at the lake, so long as you mind the giant octopus... the woods have attack deer. And if you wander past the Keep borders, you wont get much past five or six steps before you die.
[It's all said very matter 'o factly.]

I haven't been fishing in years.
[He's just going to pretend there's nothing weird about what you just said at all.]

Well, the fishing is pretty awesome, and there are poles and supplies down by the lake. [He sighs, his smile slipping a bit.] You're going to have a lot of free time on your hands, Bruce... it sucks sometimes, but there's relatively little way around it. [His head tilts slightly, glad the man seems to be taking to this all so well.]
If you don't mind my asking, what did you do back home? And... was home Earth?
[Some might think either question silly, but Alex looks rather sincere in his curiosity.]

[He's got most of his equipment. He can keep working on a cure. He'll just need to find some space to work.]
I was a college professor in Virginia.

Well, unless there’s a planet named Virginia, that answers that. What did you teach?

I've always enjoyed the sciences... How long have you been teaching?

[Bruce was probably relatively new before the incident. He hasn't set foot in Virginia in over 5 years though. GOOD LUCK FINDING THAT OUT ALEX.]

There is certainly no seeming rhyme or reason for who they bring here, but we're glad to have you, Bruce... sorry it had to be under these circumstance, though.
